Lovefilm appoints TBWALONDON to ad task

LOVEFILM, Europe’s number one DVD rental service, has appointed TBWALONDON to handle its advertising account. The appointment will see TBWALONDON create LOVEFILM’s first brand campaign across TV, cinema and online later this year, with the first burst of activity having an initial spend of £2.5 million, with a significant increase later in the year.

LOVEFILM is the UK’s biggest online DVD rental service, with a choice of 64,000 titles, delivered direct to customers door and for as little as £4.99 a month. They also power the DVD rental services provided by Tesco, and Odeon and have strategic partnerships with AOL and Vue cinemas.

The company launched in the UK in 2003 and now accounts for over 20% of all DVD rentals. It also has operations in Sweden, Norway and Denmark and has recently launched in Germany.

The campaign will aim to extend LOVEFILM’s growth from a customer base of 470,000 to over 1 million.

Matt Shepherd-Smith, chief executive of TBWALONDON said, “LOVEFILM has a great product and will become a huge brand. We’re going to have fun working together”.

For the previous two years, the online service has won the British Video Association’s award for the UK’s Best Rental Service. -ends-
