06\06\2007

TBWA\LONDON today announced that it is further strengthening its senior client service line-up with the appointment of Matthew Charlton to International managing director, Sony PlayStation and Jo Blundell to group director on the McDonald’s account.

Charlton joins from BBH where he was previously global business director on Unilever Surf across Europe, Latin & North America, and the Johnnie Walker business for which he oversaw the successful development of the much lauded “Micro” Network model, responsible for innovating much of its operational model. Charlton will be responsible for running the European and Australasian PlayStation business out of the London office and will report to TBWA\LONDON chief executive Matt Shepherd-Smith in addition to Tom Carroll, President, Worldwide.

Jo Blundell joins from McDonald’s where she’s held the post of acting marketing director, UK for the past six months. Her role as group director will see her hold responsibility for a portfolio of accounts including the McDonald’s business, reporting to managing director Victoria Davies.

The appointments come as part of the agency’s aim to create multi-specialist teams around client accounts in order to address clients’ changing business needs.

Matt Shepherd-Smith said, “Matthew and Jo are hugely talented and a great find for us. Matthew has immense experience of running creative international clients, and he will drive the business into the multitude of channels now appropriate to PlayStation. Jo’s perspective of what clients need from agencies is second to none after her time at McDonald’s. She is the perfect person to help us grow our business”.

Charlton started his career in 1996 at WWAV Rapp Collins after studying marketing communications. He moved to BBH in 1998 working across a range of clients including Selfridges, Ginsters, Polaroid Europe and the BMI British Midland business as he progressed through the ranks.

In 2001 he was promoted to global account director on the Johnnie Walker Global account, overseeing 220 markets from the London office. In 2003 he became the global business director overseeing the Johnnie Walker business across 5 of the 6 BBH offices spanning the world, including the successful launch of the brand in China and the integration of the F1 Maclaren Mercedes sponsorship.

In addition to running the award winning Johnnie Walker account, which picked up a Gold at Cannes in 2003 for the “Fish” commercial, Charlton ran the Sony Ericsson Global Business until BBH resigned it in summer 2006. He was made a board director in 2004 and recently picked up the UK Gordon’s Gin business.

Charlton said, “TBWA is bursting with great people and through Media Arts, it has an inspiring vision around which to rally all this talent. Having spent the last 6 years of my BBH career innovating the “Micro” Network model I’m looking forward to the challenge of adding my own brand of International experience to the TBWA Network”

Jo Blundell started her career at Butterfield Day Devito Hockney working on The Co-Operative Bank, Christian Aid and BT. She later joined Bates Dorland to work across the Halifax and HJ Heinz accounts before joining Banks Hoggins O’Shea, which merged with FCB in 1998. As client services director at FCB she was responsible for accounts such Weetabix Ltd, National Trust, Virgin Interactive, Jamaica Tourist Board, and Barclays.

Blundell said, ‘I’m delighted to be joining such a vibrant and ambitious agency that actively seeks out ways to tackle market conventions head on with such great creative results and welcome the chance to contribute to its continued success.’

                                                 - Ends -
