GT Academy

January\2009

You turned virtual reality, into reality?

Thanks to a partnership with two brave clients, Nissan and PlayStation, GT Academy was born. An international driving competition that captures the spirit of both brands and united the world of video games and motorsport through ultra-realistic competition.

With over 25,000 entrants across 12 European countries for the first stage – an online competition where competitors had to record their fastest lap on Gran Turismo 5 Prologue.

The pressure hotted up as the local finals were hosted in each country, with the 3 fastest from each final went to the International Final, the GT Academy at Silverstone.

22 final competitors battled it out in a gruelling and emotional week long final for 2 real-life racing contracts with the Nissan team. Lars Schlömer from Germany and Lucas Ordoñez from Spain were victorious, and now face a 4 month intensive training programme to earn their racing license and compete in the ultimate test of driving skill and stamina: the Dubai 24h endurance race in January 2009.
